Sui Resumes After Six-Hour Network Outage

Sui Network has resumed mainnet activity after a network stall halted transaction processing for more than six hours on May 28, the project said.

Sui’s status page showed the issue was identified at 07:36 PDT. Validators began rolling out a fix at 12:40 PDT, and the network came back online after more than two-thirds of stake had upgraded by 13:32 PDT. The outage affected mainnet settlement, while public RPC nodes remained operational.

Gas-Charging Bug Caused May 28 Network Stall

Sui said the halt was caused by “a crash bug in the gas charging logic introduced by the 1.72 release.” The team said it will publish a full incident review in the coming days.

That points to a software regression in the latest release, not a wallet issue or a direct loss of user funds. The disruption was centered on validator activity and settlement. Users faced paused transactions while the fix spread through enough validator stake to restart the network.

Validators Restored Mainnet After Patched Upgrade

The network came back online once more than two-thirds of stake had upgraded to the patched software. That threshold matters because Sui needed enough validator participation to resume normal consensus and settlement.

For a chain positioned as high-performance infrastructure for DeFi, gaming and consumer applications, even a temporary halt can freeze swaps, transfers and app activity across the ecosystem.

The outage also shows how quickly a release-level bug can move from a technical problem into a network-wide reliability issue.

SUI Fell 8% During Six-Hour Downtime

SUI fell during the outage as traders reacted to the network halt. The token fell about 8% over 24 hours during the incident, trading near the low-$0.90 range before stabilizing after service resumed.

The price reaction reflected concern over the outage itself and over Sui’s reliability record after earlier network disruptions.

January And 2024 Outages Add Reliability Scrutiny

The May 28 halt is the latest reliability test for Sui. The network also suffered a roughly six-hour outage on Jan. 14, 2026, caused by an internal divergence in validator consensus processing. Sui had another two-hour outage in November 2024 caused by a bug in transaction scheduling logic.

Those earlier incidents make the coming postmortem important. Developers and users will want to know how the 1.72 gas-charging bug passed testing and what changes Sui plans to prevent the same failure path from recurring.
