Coinbase has unveiled a broad slate of new products spanning stocks, derivatives, artificial intelligence, and consumer finance, moving to expand beyond crypto under what the company calls an “everything exchange” vision. The announcements, made Tuesday as part of Coinbase’s latest “System Update,” include an SEC-registered AI investment advisory tool, options trading for both equities and cryptocurrencies, pre-IPO perpetual futures, and a range of new consumer financial services.
Coinbase Adds Stock and ETF Trading Alongside Crypto on Advanced Platform
Coinbase is expanding into equities, allowing customers to transfer stock portfolios from other brokerages and trade U.S. stocks, exchange-traded funds, and indexes through Coinbase Advanced alongside cryptocurrencies.
The company is also introducing options trading for both stocks and crypto, giving users access to strategies traditionally associated with more sophisticated investors. Earlier on Tuesday, Coinbase separately announced it is launching tokenized stocks backed one-for-one by underlying U.S. equities.
New Derivatives Include Thematic Baskets and Pre-IPO Futures Tied to SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic
Coinbase is broadening its derivatives business with perpetual futures tied to thematic baskets covering areas such as artificial intelligence, defense, and Chinese equities. The exchange is also introducing pre-IPO perpetual futures that offer exposure to private companies, including SpaceX, which the company said has gone public earlier this month.
Coinbase said contracts tied to OpenAI and Anthropic are expected to follow, adding that both companies are anticipated to go public later this year. The company is also expanding into prediction markets, adding short-term crypto prediction contracts and multi-leg prediction contracts that allow traders to combine several forecasts into a single position.
Coinbase Advisor Launches as SEC-Registered AI Investment Tool for Coinbase One Subscribers
Coinbase Advisor, which the company described as one of the first SEC-registered AI-powered investment advisory tools, will initially be available to Coinbase One subscribers in the U.S. The service is designed to provide portfolio recommendations, tax-loss harvesting guidance, and market analysis. Coinbase is also building tools that allow AI agents to execute trades automatically within user-defined limits.
On the consumer finance side, Coinbase introduced a travel portal offering 5% Bitcoin rewards on bookings, a USDC-backed version of its Coinbase One credit card, and the ability to borrow against staked Solana through integrations with Jito and Morpho. CEO Brian Armstrong has described his goal as building Coinbase into a full-service financial platform combining trading, payments, lending, and asset management.
