Coinbase has begun progressively rolling out U.S. stock trading to eligible UK customers, adding nearly 4,000 equities to the same app used for crypto and cash holdings.
The service began rolling out on August 6 with zero-commission stock trading and 24/5 access for eligible securities. Fractional investing starts from £1 during regular U.S. market hours.
Nearly 4,000 US Stocks Roll Out to Eligible UK Accounts
Customers will gain access progressively rather than receiving the entire stock offering immediately. Coinbase requires UK users to complete onboarding for a Coinbase Capital Markets brokerage account before trading U.S.-listed shares.
Eligible stocks can trade 24 hours a day, five days a week, although U.S. market holidays and security-specific restrictions apply. Market orders are limited to regular trading hours, while extended sessions rely mainly on limit orders.
Fractional and dollar-based orders face additional restrictions outside regular hours. Coinbase says fractional market orders are supported during the normal 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET session, while dollar-amount quick orders are unavailable during extended trading.
Coinbase Capital Markets charges no commission on stock trades, although other service fees can apply.
Apex Handles Execution, Clearing, and Custody
For UK customers, stock trading is offered by CB Payments Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority for investment services under FRN 1045733. CB Payments arranges access to Coinbase Capital Markets and Apex Clearing Corporation. Apex provides execution, clearing, and custody for the securities.
All stock trades settle in U.S. dollars. USDC used for purchases is converted to USD, while UK customers can fund purchases with GBP through Coinbase’s USDC auto-buy process.
The products are conventional U.S. shares rather than tokenized equities or equity-linked perpetual contracts. Stock trades settle on a T+1 basis, unlike Coinbase’s continuously traded crypto markets.
UK Stock Launch Advances Coinbase’s Everything Exchange Strategy
The rollout follows Coinbase’s July 7 UK investment-services authorisation, which cleared the way for retail equity trading and expanded the company beyond its existing crypto and electronic-money services.
Coinbase had already introduced stock trading to U.S. customers earlier in 2026 as part of its “Everything Exchange” strategy. Access will continue expanding across eligible UK accounts, with stocks now joining crypto and cash products inside Coinbase’s main interface.
