Cloudflare has started rolling out programmable wallets that will allow AI agents to pay for APIs, data and online content using stablecoins. Users can now claim a unique Cloudflare Wallet handle, while funding, payment and agent authorization features will be added later.
Cloudflare Wallets are intended to solve both problems by connecting agent payments and human-readable identifiers to a Cloudflare account.
Account Wallets Set Spending Rules for Agents
Cloudflare plans to offer two wallet types. Account Wallets will allow individuals and organizations to add or remove funds and assign spending limits to wallets used by their AI agents.
Virtual Wallets will operate via API keys, allowing agents to make purchases within rules set by the account owner. Those controls can include spending allowances, approved merchant lists and maximum transaction sizes. The wallets are designed to let agents test low-cost services without asking a person to approve every payment. Cloudflare said:
“Cloudflare Wallets will allow you to store stablecoins, purchase services, and receive funds across the web.”
cloudflare.pay Gives Agents Readable IDs
Each wallet can be linked to a human-readable address through cloudflare.pay. An agent could use an identity such as research.example.cloudflare.pay, allowing a merchant to see which organization or account it represents.
Cloudflare said the identity feature will remain optional. Cloudflare says merchants will be able to decide whether to accept unidentified agents or offer different access and pricing to agents with a verified identity.
The system builds on Web Bot Auth, which already allows agents to identify themselves using cryptographic key pairs. Cloudflare Wallet handles make those technical identities easier for humans and businesses to recognize.
Wallets Connect to Stablecoin Payment Gateway
The wallets will support micropayments through x402, an open protocol that adds payment instructions to normal web requests. An agent can request an API or piece of content, receive the price, pay and repeat the request with proof of payment attached.
Cloudflare’s separate Monetization Gateway allows eligible customers to charge for webpages, datasets, APIs and MCP tools. Cloudflare says payments will initially settle in supported stablecoins, with sellers able to retain the assets or convert them into fiat currency.
Cloudflare has not announced when full wallet funding and payment features will become available. For now, users can reserve their handles as the company prepares the wider payment system.
