Apple briefly removed Telegram from its App Store worldwide after finding child sexual abuse material posted by a user on the messaging platform.
Telegram returned to the store later the same day after deleting the content and banning the account. Gram, the native token of The Open Network, fell as much as 6.4% during the disruption before recovering most of the decline.
Gram Rebounds Toward $1.40 After Falling 6.4%
Gram fell from about $1.41 to an intraday low near $1.32 as reports spread that Telegram had disappeared from App Store searches. The token later recovered toward $1.40 after the messaging app became available again.
The timing showed a short-term price reaction alongside uncertainty over Telegram’s availability, although it does not establish that the App Store removal was the sole cause of the decline. Gram is used for transaction fees, staking and payments across The Open Network and applications connected to the Telegram ecosystem.
The token was formerly known as Toncoin. A community vote changed the asset’s name and ticker to Gram and GRAM in June, while the underlying blockchain retained The Open Network and TON branding. Token balances, addresses and staking positions remained unchanged, and holders were not required to complete a migration.
Apple Restores Telegram After Prohibited Content is Removed
Apple said its review identified material that violated App Store rules prohibiting child sexual abuse content. The company restored Telegram after the developer removed the material and banned the user responsible.
Telegram said the incident involved content shared by one user and reiterated that it has a zero-tolerance policy. The platform said it had blocked nearly 338,000 groups and channels connected to child sexual abuse material during 2026.
Telegram questioned whether Apple would apply the same enforcement standard to other large communications services. Epic Games Chief Executive Tim Sweeney also criticized the decision and questioned how messaging platforms could prevent every illegal post before publication.
Telegram Returns the Same Day After Global App Store Suspension
Apple previously removed Telegram from the App Store in 2018 over inappropriate material before reinstating it after the company strengthened its safeguards.
The latest suspension was also resolved within the same day. Telegram is again listed for iPhone and iPad users on Apple’s store.
The restoration ended the immediate distribution disruption, while Gram recovered toward the price recorded before Telegram disappeared from App Store searches.
