MetaMask Opens AI Agent Wallet for DeFi Trades

MetaMask has launched Agent Wallet, a self-custodial wallet that lets AI agents trade across DeFi while users keep control of funds, approvals and trading limits.

The product is available through limited early access, with a public launch planned for this summer. The launch lets MetaMask support AI-agent trading through a wallet that keeps custody and permissions with the user.

Guard Mode Requires 2FA Approvals

MetaMask said users can connect an AI agent framework, set daily spend limits, choose approved protocols and define a risk profile before allowing the agent to trade. The default Guard Mode requires human approval through two-factor authentication when an action falls outside those limits.

A second option, called Beast Mode, is aimed at traders and developers who want fewer interruptions. It still triggers approval checks for transactions flagged as malicious, but gives agents more freedom to operate across supported protocols.

Transactions Get Simulation and Threat Scans

MetaMask said supported transactions pass through simulation, Blockaid-powered threat scanning and MEV protection before execution. Transactions deemed safe are covered by MetaMask’s Transaction Protection program for losses of up to $10,000, subject to terms.

The wallet can also block or escalate risky transactions. If an agent tries to send funds to a non-allowlisted protocol, exceed a daily outflow limit or interact with a malicious contract, the user must approve or reject the action.

Agent Trades Cover Swaps, Perps and Predictions

Agent Wallet can support swaps, perpetuals, prediction-market trades and liquidity positions without users handing custody to a centralized platform.

The wallet supports DeFi activity across Ethereum, Linea, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain and Sei at launch. MetaMask also said the early-access product supports Hyperliquid, giving agents a route into perpetuals alongside EVM-based trading.

Wallet Works With OpenAI, Claude and Cursor

The wallet works with AI tools including OpenClaw, OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, Nous Research Hermes Agent and Cursor. MetaMask said the goal is to let traders use their preferred AI systems without giving those systems unchecked control over capital.

Early-access users can test agent trading with wallet rules, security scans and human override. The product puts MetaMask into the growing market for AI-driven DeFi tools while keeping transaction control inside the wallet.
