Mirae Plans Digital X Rebrand After Taking 97.15% of Korbit

Mirae Asset plans to rebrand South Korean crypto exchange Korbit as Digital X and develop it into a platform connecting traditional investments with digital assets.

The financial group completed its acquisition after securing regulatory clearance, raising its ownership to 97.15%. The deal gives a large South Korean financial conglomerate direct control of a licensed domestic crypto exchange for the first time.

Digital X Will Connect Five Investment Categories

Mirae wants Digital X to combine real-world assets, security tokens, stablecoins, conventional investments and cryptocurrencies within one platform. The group described the planned service as an “intelligent investment platform” where research, investor education and market information connect with trading and digital asset infrastructure.

It has not disclosed a launch timetable or identified specific tokenized products. Digital X is intended to operate as more than a renamed crypto exchange. Mirae plans to use its global asset management and investment experience alongside Korbit’s blockchain and trading capabilities to develop services for retail and institutional clients.

Mirae’s 97.15% Stake Gives it Control of Korbit

Mirae Asset Consulting moved to raise its Korbit stake to 97.15% after the main acquisition and additional share purchase. Korbit, founded in 2013, was South Korea’s first won-based cryptocurrency exchange.

It remains one of five exchanges offering Korean won trading through a domestic banking partnership, but holds less than 1% of the local market.

Mirae said it does not currently plan to acquire the remaining shares. Its immediate focus is strengthening the platform rather than challenging Upbit and Bithumb directly for trading volume.

Korbit Trading, Deposits and Withdrawals Remain Unchanged

Korbit said its operating company will remain unchanged after the ownership transfer. Existing trading, deposits and withdrawals will continue without interruption.

Customer crypto and cash will remain segregated under South Korea’s Virtual Asset User Protection Act.

Mirae also said Digital X will apply strict anti-money laundering, customer identification and fraud-detection controls.

Digital X Will Not Initially Offer a Combined Brokerage Account

The rebranding does not yet create a combined brokerage account covering stocks, funds and crypto.

Mirae must still develop individual services and secure any additional regulatory approvals required for stablecoins, security tokens or tokenized assets.

The next confirmed step is the Digital X rebrand, followed by the gradual rollout of infrastructure connecting Mirae’s traditional investment businesses with Korbit’s digital asset platform.
