Welcome to the tenth episode of the CoinInsider.com podcast, Coin Dive!

In this episode, we speak to Yossi Hasson and Steven Nerayoff from the Alchemist Blockchain Techstars Accelerator.

This episode is an exciting world first! It is the first time that the two discuss their dive into blockchain with Techstars.

Tune in – questions we asked during this interview:

To Steven Nerayoff:

  • What did you do before you shifted into blockchain?
  • Did you take the leap into mining and buying Bitcoin in 2011 when it was around $2.00 USD?

To Yossi Hasson:

  • When did you shift into blockchain and how did you get into the space?
  • In relation to the accelerator and Techstars, how did you go from South Africa to New York to get involved?

To Steven Nerayoff:

  • How did yourself and Alchemist get involved in this programme once Yossi discussed it with Techstars?
  • Can you give insight into Alchemist and where the business started and what caused the shift into cryptocurrency and what you did before Techstars?

To both:

  • Why start an accelerator now in this industry? Is it not too early to start seeding companies in this space?
  • If it is not too early, have initial coin offerings (ICO) not taken the place of accelerators?
  • Is Techstars going to be including any kind of ICO funding options into what you are doing over time, or not at all?
  • From an application perspective, what kind of founders are you looking for at the Alchemist Blockchain Techstars Accelerator?
  • The industry seems to be very male-focused. What is Techstars doing to diversify the founders and the teams on board?

To Yossi Hasson:

  • Can you tell me a bit about the structure of the program once a business is accepted into the program? What can they expect to give up in terms of equity, what kind of funding do you provide, what kind of support? Can you give me a high-level breakdown of that?

To Steven Nerayoff:

  • You’ve been involved in the Ethereum platform since the ICO in 2014/2015. How have your feelings about the platform evolved, especially in relation to Vitalik?

To both:

  • How are you going to impart the thinking of decentralization in real-life to companies that come through your program
  • How are you preparing your startups to think about the shift from centralized power to decentralized power?
  • This is certainly not a short-time concept; do you not think Techstars would be better to start the process of accelerating in ten or so years time?

Moving into a quick fire, session of fun questions.

To Yossi Hasson:

  • Do you lean towards maximalist on the Bitcoin side or altcoins?

To Steven Nerayoff:

  • Name one person in the industry that you’d like to have dinner with (but not Satoshi).

To Yossi Hasson:

  • If you could remove a single person from the industry forever, who would it be and why?

To Steven Nerayoff:

  • If you had to sell all of your Bitcoin now, what one cryptocurrency would you purchase and why?

To Yossi Hasson:

  • What is your favorite project in the space right now?
  • Where can anyone interested in getting in touch with Techstars find you to apply?
