Visa has rolled out Intelligent Commerce Connect, a new product that enables merchants, agent builders, and payment enablers to connect to AI-led shopping through a single integration. The company says<\/a> the system handles payment initiation, tokenisation, spend controls, and authentication, allowing AI agents to make purchases on a user\u2019s behalf across Visa and non-Visa card rails.<\/p>\n

The launch pushes Visa\u2019s AI commerce effort beyond the idea stage and into the merchant stack. Rather than talking about AI shopping in broad terms, Visa is now offering the payment layer that lets agents search, choose, and complete purchases inside AI workflows.<\/p>\n

The new product is aimed at merchants and agent builders<\/h2>\n

Intelligent Commerce Connect sits inside Visa\u2019s Acceptance Platform and is being pitched as a network, protocol, and token vault-agnostic on-ramp. Visa says it can work with major token vault providers and supports agent-initiated payments through protocols including Trusted Agent Protocol, Machine Payments Protocol, Agentic Commerce Protocol, and Universal Commerce Protocol.<\/p>\n

It also gives merchants a way to show catalogues, pricing and product details inside AI platforms, which could shift some product discovery away from websites and apps and into chat-based interfaces. For companies that process transactions for merchants, Visa says it can also handle orchestration and PCI compliance.<\/p>\n

Visa is building on last year\u2019s AI shopping push<\/h2>\n

The new release builds on Visa Intelligent Commerce, unveiled in April 2025 with partners including OpenAI, Microsoft, Anthropic, IBM, Mistral AI, Perplexity, Samsung, and Stripe. That earlier launch focused on opening Visa\u2019s network to developers building AI shopping agents and giving consumers tokenised credentials, spending limits, and authenticated instructions.<\/p>\n

This week\u2019s release turns to the business side of the stack. Visa is now trying to make sure merchants and platforms can identify trusted agents, accept their payment requests, and receive enough verified information to treat them as legitimate commerce traffic rather than ordinary bots.<\/p>\n

The rollout is starting with a pilot group<\/h2>\n

Visa says Intelligent Commerce Connect is already in pilot with Aldar, AWS, Diddo, Highnote, Mesh, Payabli, and Sumvin, with more partners expected this year. The company has also stated that parts of the Intelligent Commerce toolkit are still under development and may not be available in all markets, leaving this rollout in an early commercial stage.<\/p>\n

For payments and crypto firms, the takeaway is simple. The race around AI shopping is moving into infrastructure.
