“The question of information security is very important when we conduct more of our lives digitally, we must ensure that the electricity supply that makes all this digital technology work safely and immune against cyber-attacks.”
The Bahrainian government has pointed out that blockchain technology is to be a critical step in the country’s financial standpoint.
According to a local news source, the Daily Tribune, the Middle Eastern country is looking to the blockchain in order to fulfill various roles in the economic sector as well as using the technology for cybersecurity methods.
The news outlet reported that the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs and member of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology Dr Abdulhussain Mirza has said that blockchain is a key component in making important advancements in the country. He further commented that individuals and companies from Bahrain should look to explore the technology and become familiar with the workings of it.
Speaking as he commenced the SmartSec Cyber Security and Blockchain Conference 2018, Mirza said:
“Technologies such as blockchain take us a huge step forward in finding a secure way to facilitate transactions. Blockchain’s ability to protect user’s data is a true mark of progress, especially due to the fact that it can be applied in different companies from different industries including cybersecurity”.
He continued to highlight the importance of cybersecurity in business and urged entities to look to the innovation in order to resolve several issues of digital safety:
“Cyber-security is an essential part of our lives because most of our daily lives involve the use of technology in one way or another.”
Prior, Bahrain has not taken a standpoint on the technology. Although it is neighboring Dubai, which has explicitly looked to blockchain for several legal matters, Mirza’s comments mark the first report of the country’s tendency. Comments which make it seem clear that the attitude is a positive one:
